Bentley Investment Group Places First at University of Dayton's Student Portfolio Competition

28 Apr 2009

The student-run Bentley Investment Group placed first in the undergraduate division value-style portfolio category at the University of Dayton's ninth annual student portfolio competition. Students were honored at the competition, held in conjunction with the R.I.S.E. (Redefining Investment Strategy Education) IX Global Student Investment Forum, March 26 to 28.

Bentley was among four winners in the undergraduate division. The competition selects winners based on their risk-adjusted performance for calendar year 2008 in various categories for undergraduate and graduate portfolios. The Bentley Investment Group - responsible for managing nearly $500,000 of endowment funds - had an outstanding performance year in a very difficult and challenging market environment, according to the group's president Eric Wald. The equity portfolio is managed solely by students, under the advisement of faculty adviser David Simon. There are more than 100 active members.

R.I.S.E. IX attracted more than 2,600 students, faculty and professionals from 275 colleges and universities from around the world. More than 100 speakers addressed the global economy and investments from a variety of perspectives. Speakers included Richard Fisher, president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas; Steve Liesman, senior economics reporter at CNBC; and Edward Kerschner of Citigroup/Smith Barney.
