Bentley Launches Master of Science in Real Estate Management

Program is Only One in New England with Focus on Commercial and Residential Property Management

The McCallum Graduate School of Business at Bentley College announces the launch of a Master of Science in Real Estate Management (MSREM) in response to the industry's need for technically-skilled graduate business students with the knowledge base to manage residential and commercial properties.

Designed in consultation with many of the nation's leading experts in this emerging field, the MSREM program begins in the fall of 2006, providing students a solid understanding of business processes for planning, organizing and controlling real estate holdings and acquisitions. Candidates will also be exposed to a variety of career avenues through internships and field-based learning.

"During our discussions with leaders in the real estate field, we asked them outright if they'd hire someone who graduated from this program," said Bentley Associate Dean of Business Bill Wiggins, who led the task force that developed MSREM. "The response was universal: 'As soon as you have graduates with those skills, send them our way.'"

MSREM students gain a solid understanding of business processes related to real estate management, along with the leadership and interpersonal skills needed to succeed in an increasingly competitive environment. The program also emphasizes ethics and corporate responsibility, and offers access to the tools and technologies that industry professionals use everyday

The 30-credit hour program will include required core courses in real estate management, real estate law, marketing of services, business process management, leadership, ethics and corporate responsibility. Students can also select from 24 elective courses ranging from negotiating to planning and financing new ventures to entrepreneurial thinking.

Students with a non-business undergraduate degree may need to complete up to six additional courses, including statistics, economics, marketing, accounting, finance and organizational behavior, to ensure an appropriate academic preparation for the program.

The student-centered learning environment combines traditional classroom experience with online options for flexibility and convenience.
